One of my favorite things about a new year is the opportunity to begin a new family album. Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t finished my 2016 family album yet, but there is something fun about starting something fresh and new. When I started using Project Life, I grasped onto the idea that it wasn’t about scrapbooking events but instead, life as it happens. The early albums that I used as inspiration did a layout for each week so that the 2 page spread was about the week rather than just one event that happened during that week. This really helped me to embrace the concept because I always felt that if I didn’t have many pictures of something, it was hard to scrapbook about it.
I’m excited to share my very first layout in my 2017 album. It covers week #1 of January.
The first thing I did was choose my pictures. Since it covered the whole week, I just went through my camera phone and selected the ones that I thought represented the week. Other sources that I go to for photos are my husband and son’s phones, Facebook and other social media sites. The photo of all the kids playing football in the snow was actually taken by my neighbor. She had posted it on Facebook and I was so excited because I hadn’t gotten any pictures of my older 2 playing in the snow. I also use Twitter and Instagram because sometimes the school will post photos of events that occur while the kids are at school. Knowing that I am documenting the everyday moments has made me more aware of good photo opportunities. The photo on the left side of my layout was actually the line at the grocery store on the day before the forecasted snow storm of the year. If I was going to have to wait in that line, I wanted my family to know how much that bread should mean to them as they are eating it. LOL!
After the photos are in, I choose the cards for the empty pockets. I loved this red snowflake theme so it was really simple to choose a few of the cards and just pop them into the pockets. I didn’t have a 4×6 card so I took a 3×4 and a 4×4 and glued them together to make the title card for the page. After adding the sticker letters, I added the cute little snowflake and it was all done and ready to be added.
