I have to start this post by saying how much I love the little town that I live in. I grew up as a city girl in Charlotte and always thought that was where I wanted to raise a family but then I moved to Apex after I graduated from college and fell in love. I love everything about Apex, including the way we kick off the Christmas season! So, for my second day, I am featuring Christmas in downtown Apex. It all starts on a Friday night with Christmas on Salem Street. The town closes down the road and everyone gathers for the lighting of the Christmas tree, carolers, horse-drawn carriage rides, crafts for kids and shopping in the local shops. Santa and Mrs Claus even wander up and down the street talking to kids who want to share their lists. Saturday brings the Apex Christmas Parade which is just a fun parade to watch. There are no big floats or names that you would remember just half the town parading down the street with the other half cheering them on. This year, my Justin was drum major for his middle school band so we were very excited to see him and he did a great job despite his fear of walking backward. We were also really excited to hear the high school band that he will be a part of next year.
First, I apologize for how grainy this picture is. I’m not really sure what happened to it. Ugh! My original intention for this page was to only include the photos and memories from the Friday night event. On the Dear Santa card, I planned to write a memory about the kids chatting with Santa or perhaps what they told him they wanted. Things didn’t go as planned because my children didn’t want to wait to talk to Santa because they knew they would see him later in the month. So, I had to change my plan. I decided to make Christmas in Downtown Apex the theme for this spread and it covered memories of Friday and Saturday. While I never would have done this a couple years ago, I have come to realize that the Project Life police won’t come after me if I fudge things. And, does it REALLY matter??? I decided that the left side would be from Friday night and the right side would include the parade. While I hate not using that adorable Dear Santa journal card, I do like how the page turned out.
